Right Of Way Is Wrong

I absolutely hate that in Canada and a lot of the world, that pedestrians have the right of way. I get that maybe I’m the controversial one with this hot take but I think that the argument for cars having the right of way should be way stronger than the argument in favour of pedestrians. What triggered this? Don’t worry, I didn’t get into any accident – no one was hit and one was in trouble but was I fuming? Did I want to hit? Do I have displaced road rage that should seek counseling? Maybe. All I know is that pedestrians having the right of way is utter nonsense and in this article I will argue why drivers should have the right of way.

You don’t earn walking privileges, you just get them. It’s not something that you had to pay money to attain, it’s not something that you had to take multiple tests to do, it’s something that you can do the moment you feel free to. Walking ain’t shit. However, driving is something that you have to work for. You have to study, train, pay money, and pour resources into driving. And after you’re done and you’ve accomplished all that, you’re telling me that I still have to yield to passengers? ME? the person who is driving the machine with all the certifications, investment, and power – I have to yield to a passerby? Nah, that ain’t right. As drivers, we have earned the right of way.

And let’s not get started about the sense of urgency. If you are in a car, chances are that you’re probably in a more time sensitive situation than the person walking. They should wait on you, not the other way around. Also, it’s way faster for them to wait on you than for you to wait on them. Their slow walking ass can’t compete with your engine and wheels. I just hate, when you’re about to make a turn and someone is just walking so slow across the crosswalk, they make eye contact with you but they don’t care – they’re just out for a stroll. Can that not happen? Either get a little pep in your step, or let me drive through first. Don’t saunter on like you’re not holding up traffic. If a car was driving slowly or holding up traffic like that, you can expect a beep or a middle finger (you shouldn’t expect it, but it’s expected) but if a passerby does it, you just gotta wait like a little bitch.

The morale of the story is that if you’re a pedestrian, walking through a crosswalk while a car is waiting for you – you should either 1. acknowledge and cross quickly or 2. let the driver drive through first. Why are you going to be an enemy of progress? I hate someone who holds up things for other people. Pitter patter, let’s get at her and let’s goooooo. Besides, have you seen these gas prices???
